Amazon Prime – For the Grimm and Giggles (Free Shipping is Nice Too)

I did a 30 day trial of Amazon Prime (and have watched offerings while at friend’s homes) and I must say of the streaming options, it’s nice to have one that offers no commercial options of fairly current shows.

I watched some episodes of Grimm at my sister’s suggestion. It’s not my favorite show, but I like it as a fast watch sort of thing for an escape fix. Anyway I wouldn’t have tried it without Amazon Prime. During my trial I also took advantage of the Free 2 Day Shipping offer too, which was pretty darn nice.

If you’d like a free 30 day trial use the link in this banner and I’ll get a little referral bonus from Amazon!

If you already have Prime, why not give it as a gift to someone? Use this link:

I’ll also get a referral for that if you end up gifting Prime to someone after clicking the link above.

NameCheap – Need a Domain Name?

Namecheap.com - Cheap domain name registration, renewal and transfers - from only $3.98/Year

I have moved the bulk of my domain names from GoDaddy to NameCheap. I did this during the SOPA uproar and they made it easy to do it and also had a transfer discount (this month’s transfer code is AUTUMNCOLORS).

I’ve been with them for over a year now and have had no issues, and I also have not had the annoying “upsell” experience that GoDaddy always (and still) offers.

NameCheap is like it says, cheap, and even comes with a year of WhoIs Gaurd protection. The only con that I’ve come across so far is that they don’t take Discover Card for payment (Visa, Mastercard, AmEx or PayPal or your options).

NameCheap also offers hosting services but I have not tried them so can’t vouch for that.

Here are more discount codes:
Domain discounts: AUTUMNCOLORS – standard discounts off com/net/org/info/biz registrations and transfers, not renewals (you can renew for several years at a time for a baked-in savings!)
Shared Hosting (20% off the first billing cycle): HOCTOBER
VPS Hosting (10% off the first billing cycle): RELIABLEHOSTING

SugarSync – Access & Share files – Across Computers, Phones, iPads etc

UPDATE: This is no longer a free service. I cancelled my account. It still might be worth it if you want the convenience of syncing folders that you specify (versus special folders to a certain service, you can just pick whatever folders you want with SugarSync).

This great for syncing up files between computers, even between a Mac and a PC. This proved invaluable when I wanted to share files and the person was having trouble with my ftp site for some reason.

Backblaze – Saved my butt! Easiest & simplest backup I’ve used

Backblaze saved my butt during a trip to Yosemite. A client called and needed a file. I was able to download it from Backblaze (without having to download an entire folder… I could just pick exactly the files I wanted). Well worth the low yearly cost of $50.00 for UNLIMITED data backup! I have over a terabyte of info backed up with them.

Shoeboxed – Mail, email or upload your paper mess away

Disorganized to Organized plus NYT - Shoeboxed.com

I’ve been testing this out for a few months now, I think it’s going to be a blessing for next year’s taxes! They have a “Netflix-like” pre-paid envelope system which is awesome, I just mail off stuff I need scanned & organized and they do it for me and it ends up in a downloadable file with data and an image file too in case I need it. When they are done scanning the items I sent them they send them back with a new envelope (or you can choose the option for Shoeboxed to shred the items).

Another aspect of Shoeboxed are their mobile apps. I haven’t used the phone options very much because my camera phone is pretty limited but I have used the email forwarding option and really like that too. Now I can just forward those emailed receipts to Shoeboxed and it gets categorized  and I can archive the original email with no worries.

The bonus aspect of Shoeboxed is that it’s not just for receipts. I had hundreds of business cards from various conventions and shows scanned for me and I now have it as a CSV file (you can get a variety of files by the way, Google Contacts, EverNote, QuickBooks, etc). Can you imagine just coming from from a con and just dropping all those cards into an envelope and letting someone else deal with them? Or if you’re on the ball, just take camera phone pics of the cards as you get them and send the pics to Shoeboxed, then you wont’ even have to bring the cards home.
